Step 3: Should we use Ambassadors in Community?

The majority of our Community partners use Ambassadors within their student communities, and we see great engagement from those institutions.

However, it is not a prerequisite! We do also have university partners who don't use Ambassadors in Community, and prefer to keep it entirely student-led. Both have their advantages.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ What should my Ambassadors be doing within Community?

Your Ambassadors can be as involved as you like! You can agree an appropriate amount of time spent in the Community with them, to fit into their existing schedules. Some tasks and activities for your Ambassadors include:

  • Monitoring groups for questions from students. You can assign responsibility for a few groups each per Ambassador, to ensure that each group is covered throughout the week. Your Ambassadors can check their assigned groups daily or every other day, responding to any new questions, sharing tips and insights, and replying to intro messages from new Community members

  • Setting office hours. You can discuss a rota or set shift times during which you would like your Ambassadors to check on your Community, which might cover weekends

  • Posting interesting and engaging content. Your ambassadors can spark the conversation and build excitement by posting images, event flyers, open questions, information on departmental research or campus sports wins, or short-form content such as '3 things I wouldn't leave for a seminar without'

  • Reporting any inappropriate messages. We see very low levels of misuse on Community. However, if an ambassador does spot anything, they can report this to you, and they can also delete the message so it's no longer visible to your student users

โฐ Recommended time spent in Community:

We recommend that you allocate 1-2 hours per week, per ambassador, to maintain a thriving Community. You may find that this fluctuates based on the time of year.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Please note that Ambassador time spent in Community is automatically tracked and logged within their timesheet if they use the Unibuddy Ambassador app.

If your Ambassadors prefer to use Community on desktop browser, their time spent will not be tracked. In this case, our university partners tend to agree a fair time spent per week or month with their ambassadors, and they can add this manually to their timesheet as research time.
