Meet Your Future Uni Friends with Social Matching in Community 🚀

Written by Amy Gray

Starting university is exciting, but it can also feel a little strange not knowing who you’ll be sharing seminars, housing, and campus life with.

That’s where Social Matching comes in.

If you’ve joined your university’s Unibuddy Community, you’ll now get three personalised student matches every week, helping you discover other incoming students who you might have something in common with.

You could meet someone studying the same subject, someone from your home country, or someone who shares your interests. 🎉

How does Social Matching work?

Every 7 days, you’ll see three suggested matches based on information in your Community profile, such as:

  • 🎓 What you’re studying

  • 🌍 Where you’re from

  • 🎨 Your hobbies and interests

You can check out your matches in your Connect tab within Community. Found someone you’d like to chat to? Send them a DM and start the conversation. You never know - your match could become your course mate, flatmate, society buddy or one of your closest friends at university.

Not got time to message right away? Come back to your Inbox later, and your match will be there ready for you to start a chat.

Not a big public-chat person? No problem.

You don’t have to post in a busy Space or introduce yourself to everyone to start making connections.

Social Matching gives you a more personal way to meet other students, whether you’re someone who loves chatting to new people or prefers to quietly browse and see what’s going on.

You can still explore your Community, join conversations in Spaces and find useful information in Updates and To-Do’s. Social Matching simply gives you another way to find people you get along with.

Make your matches even better ✨

Want to get the most out of Social Matching? Make sure you complete your Community profile and add your interests.

The more you tell us about yourself, the more useful your matches can be. Think about the hobbies, activities, music, sports, games or anything else you’d be happy to chat about with someone new.

Then keep an eye out for your three new matches each week.

Something gone wrong with a match?

The same block and report functionality is baked-in throughout Community, to keep you safe as you prepare to make the move to university. If a match has said something inappropriate to you, or makes you feel uncomfortable, you can report them to your university. You can also block someone from messaging you by selecting the Block user option on their profile.

Your university journey starts before you arrive

You don’t have to wait until your first day on campus to start meeting people.

Your future classmates and friends are already joining the Community - so take a look at your matches, start a conversation and see where it goes.

Your next great friendship could be just one match away. 💬
