💾 What technology does the Assistant use?
Unibuddy Assistant uses the OpenAI GPT-4o API in order to understand student questions, search your website, and formulate responses.
🐢 Will it slow down my website?
No, your Assistant will load instantly after your website has finished loading. There are no ‘blocking’ scripts included in Assistant that would be loaded before the user can start interacting with your website.
🧠 What can Assistant answer questions about?
Your Assistant can answer questions on just about anything related to your institution - as long as this is included on your website.
The Assistant reads your website (excluding any pages/URLs you have told it to ignore), and this is where the answers to prospect queries come from.
It will strictly answer questions related to your institution - so if a student asks a question about the band Nirvana - unless you happen to have a degree programme in 90's grunge - it will not answer and will politely steer the conversation back to your college or university.
🦉 How does Assistant know the answers?
Unibuddy Assistant ‘scrapes’ (reads) the content of your website, and all of the associated PDF’s and documentation, and stores that knowledge. When a student asks a question, Assistant is able to fetch the relevant information from the knowledge base, and formulate a new response specifically for that students question.
Your Assistant is able to take into account the context of the conversation, and use that to improve the response - and is also adept at understanding when to suggest other actions - such as speaking to an ambassador, or reading more about a topic.
⌨️ What if we update the content on our website?
The Assistant will also automatically update as any updates are made to your web content - if you have refreshed the information on a web page, Assistant will be loaded with that fresh information, ready to relay it to students visiting your website.
🌎 Does Unibuddy Assistant work in other languages?
Yes! Your Assistant will respond in the language in which it is spoken to. The Assistant can also translate your website content in real-time when responding to student questions.
🧩 How do we make sure the information our Assistant is sharing is accurate?
Your Assistant CAN ONLY answer questions with content from your website. Unibuddy Assistant cannot search the internet or make assumptions itself, meaning the data is as accurate as your website is! If there are any areas you would prefer your Assistant didn't answer queries on - such as visa deadlines - you do have the option to add a custom response, which means you can direct to a certain URL if any student asks about visas, for example.
🕵 Can we see the answers the Assistant is giving?
Yes! Once live, the Assistant tab in your admin dashboard will allow you to monitor conversations taking place. This is a great opportunity to spot any gaps in your website's content - if you see a question that the Assistant couldn't answer as the information isn't in it's knowledge base, it could point to a potential update needed to the content you have available.
💬 Can I customise the Assistant welcome message?
No. The Assistant welcome message is currently fixed and cannot be customised.
If you would like to customise the text displayed to prospective students, you can use the custom responses feature to tailor how Assistant responds to specific topics and questions. However, the initial welcome message shown when Assistant first opens is the same for all institutions and cannot currently be edited.
