Can I Add a Custom Filter to my Chat Platform?

Custom filters are a really effective way to create an inclusive and empowering user experience on your Chat platform. Prospects will be able to filter specific fields and select ambassadors that align with their experiences, boosting their feeling of belonging at an early stage with your institution.


You can create as many custom fields as you like on your University Dashboard, but a maximum of 4 filters can be displayed on the Chat platform at any one time.

Typically, 3 standard filters are used (e.g. Level of Study, Area of Study, Country/Region).

If you would like to add a 4th filter, this must be set up as a custom field and enabled as a filter.

Custom fields could be a degree/program-type field, student-type field, demographic information, a specific campus or even hobbies and interests.

These fields need to be marked as Active. Once they are active, your Ambassadors have the option to include them on their profile as they set up or update their accounts.

Note: the Staff tab supports a maximum of 2 filters.

To add custom filters to your Chat platform, watch the linked video, or follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into your University Dashboard.

  2. Select the Ambassador option under the Customization drop-down menu.

  3. Select the "Add New Field" feature at the bottom.


  4. The final step is to ensure this new field is displayed on your Unibuddy Chat platform: in order for this to happen, simply select the box under the Use as Filter column, then click Save below.
