Ambassadors can mark themselves as Out of Office when they’re unavailable for a period of time.

This helps set clear expectations for students and prevents conversations being left without a response.

When you’re marked as Out of Office, students will be informed when you’ll be available again, and you won’t appear as available to message until you return.

Out of Office can only be set by ambassadors, so please remember to update your status whenever you’re away to avoid missed student messages.

How Out of Office works

When you set yourself as Out of Office:

  • You will not appear in the People tab for students to start new conversations

  • Students you’re already chatting with will see a banner showing when you’ll be back

  • Your status will automatically update back to Available once your return date passes

How to mark yourself as Out of Office

  1. Open the Unibuddy app

  2. Go to your Profile

  3. Select Status

  4. Choose Out of Office

  5. Set a date range for when you’ll be unavailable

  6. Save your changes

Your status will update immediately.

N.b Out of Office status is currently managed only from the Unibuddy mobile app.

What students will see

  • A clear message letting them know you’re Out of Office

  • The date you’ll be back, so they know when to expect a reply

  • You won’t be shown as available to new students during this time

This helps reduce frustration and avoids students waiting for replies that won’t come.

Best practice tips

  • Set your Out of Office status before you become unavailable

  • Use it for holidays, exams, or busy periods where you won’t be able to reply

  • If you return earlier than expected, you can update your status at any time
